Ages 16–18

Sixth Form

Two years of serious academic study, growing independence and real responsibility, with expert guidance on the next step.

Ready for What Comes Next

Sixth Formers are treated as young adults. They have more freedom, and more is expected of them in return.

Teaching groups are small, often seminar-sized, and lessons are discursive and demanding. Students learn to read critically, argue clearly and manage their own time, the skills that matter most at university and in work.

Sixth Formers also lead the school: as prefects, house captains, team captains, society presidents and mentors to younger pupils. They have their own common room and study centre, and boarders enjoy single or twin study-bedrooms.

Joining the Sixth Form

We welcome students from other schools, in the UK and overseas, into the Sixth Form each year, as day pupils or boarders. New students settle quickly and are given a tutor and, for boarders, a house buddy from the start.

Entry is based on predicted GCSE grades (or equivalent), a school reference and an interview. Most courses ask for at least a grade 6 in the subjects to be studied.
